Malahide Swords Canoe Club 25th October 2020

Hi,

Some of you have been asking what type of clothing to get the kids for kayaking.

1. Most important is layers

2. Base layer of thermal clothing/Under armor both top and leggings

3. Windsheeter type of top or a cagoule ( aka “cag”) - penneys/dunnes usually stock reasonably priced light rainjackets

4. Booties (25-30 euros) or seal skin neoprene socks. ( 20 euro approx).

5. For winter the booties that come over the ankle are best https://www.decathlon.ie/ie_en/500-ankle-boot-surfing-booties-3-mm-neoprene-zip-black-grey-en-s150594-2542562.html

6. If you have existing short style booties below the ankle then best thing is to get the seal type socks and wear them with the booties

7. Woolly hat

The club has ordered 30 paddle mitts ( they protect hands from the wind) and these will be given to the kids in Term 2.

For anyone that does not already have a Buoyancy aid you will need to obtain one.

I-canoe www.i-canoe.com or Canoe centre www.canoecentre.ie or a local sailing shop will have buoyancy aids. Aim for an adjustable one so that the buoyancy aid can expand as the child grows. For the buoyancy aid I recommend going to either the canoe shops listed above or sailing shop. For clothing decathlon is good value.

There is no need to buy expensive clothing particularly as the children are still growing.

Can you also download http://clubzap.com as it is the app the club will be using for updates and registrations.

Yours in sport
